What is Causing Your Discomfort?
We believe that there is a direct relationship between oral health and chronic pain. A triad of factors affects TMJ health — the teeth, the muscles, and the temporomandibular joints, and those who suffer from TMJ have a structural imbalance in their jaw-to-skull relationship.
If you suffer from any of the following symptoms, you may be a candidate for TMJ treatment:
- Headaches or migraines
- Stiffness or soreness in the neck, shoulders and back
- Insomnia
- Sensitive teeth
- Clenching or grinding
- Dizziness
- Ear congestion
- Ringing in the ears
- Limited mouth opening
To determine exactly why you are suffering from your particular symptoms, we use a dental articulator. A dental articulator is a special machine that allows us to mount models of your teeth and orient them in space to show how they function. It works in a very similar way to the jaw, so that if your bite is off or your teeth are worn, the articulator will allow us to show – in three dimensions – how your jaw is affected and how we can correct it. By visualizing where the teeth are positioned with the joints, we can test the correct position, recreate a functional bite, and demonstrate it to you, before we even begin working in your mouth!
